Details: This course was mainly twelve months practical training in C programming and UNIX operation. A major
component was a four-month full-time software development project where I
produced a network-based (TCP/IP) multi-user "real-time discussion
facility" server, programmed in C, to run on the Internet via a UNIX
system. My software has been
distributed for use by various universities.
The course also included: normalisation
to develop an INGRES relational database

Job Title: Software Development Engineer

Duties: The chief role of this position is to develop telephony
interface modules for our Symphony and daVinci voice recording and retrieval
systems. I produced Computer Telephony
Integration (CTI) software using Microsoft
Visual C++ version 5 to
interface with switches including those by Aspect, Northern Telecom (Meridian),
Mitel (SX2000), Ericsson (MD110) and IPC Tradenet. Customers using my software include Morgan Stanley, Charles
Schwab, Trusthouse Forte Hotels, AOL and Direkt Anlage Bank (Germany). I also produce utilities for our Boomerang
dictation and Harmony voice recording and retrieval products, using Visual Basic version 5 and ActiveX
controls. I am involved with
implementing the company's Internet web-site using HTML, Java scripting,
Macromedia Flash 5 and ASP version 3.0. Responsibilities also include software test planning and field
support. This area has gained me the
vast knowledge of computer telephony integration (CTI) protocols via RS232 and
Ethernet (TCP/IP) for PABXs. The job
has also allowed me to gain experience in the use of SQL Plus, Oracle
database, Windows NT 4, MS
Visual Source Safe. My commitment
is demonstrated by my willingness to work outside contracted hours and to learn
quickly the use of new application software to get tasks done.

compatibility of our call loggers with a variety of telephone switches. This area has gained me the vast knowledge
of computer telephony integration (CTI) protocols via RS232 and Ethernet
(TCP/IP) for PABXs. I am also
responsible for developing many database import and update utilities. The job has allowed me to gain experience in
Microsoft Visual C++, MS Visual Basic versions 3 and 4,
maintaining MS Access database and
use of SQL, Windows NT, Windows 95, OS9 and OS9000 operating systems, Concurrent
and Novell Multi-user DOS, source-code version control utilities
such as SMS and VCS.

Duties: I was selected by
my university to take this work for the company's environmental and pollution

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - full-time industrial placement
during third year of B.Eng course.
Duties: This employment
provided me excellent exposure to IT in an industrial environment. I was responsible for the smooth running of
on-site production process plants. The work

designing machine parts and producing process diagrams, programming Witness simulation software to produce
animated models of on-site processes; Use of Lotus 123 spreadsheet for producing production-rate prediction
tables; BASIC programming for
producing calculation tables; modifying and documenting processes; supervising
and training staff on machine operation.
